HI, I’M NANCY
My professional life probably began in junior high with a run for student council president. I’m pretty sure I won because of my nifty, hand-lettered campaign flyers! And though planning candy sales and dances were key to my first job, what I enjoyed the most was brainstorming event names and designing posters.
Eventually, I found myself “making posters” for a living. First, for magazines like Metropolis and ESPN. Next, for fashion brands like Ralph Lauren. Then, for Mouth.com, an indie food and drink e-retailer I co-founded. These days, find myself working on all types of projects, posters and otherwise. (Want details? See LinkedIn.)
WHAT’S WITH THE N’S?
I’ve never been one type of N. I don’t fit neatly into just one font folder. If you like to read and want more on this, keep scrolling.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
Here is a peek at my work, starting with a Mouth highlight reel. It’s impossible to share the depth of what we created during ten years of Mouth (and I do mean we). As Chief Creative Officer, I ran branding, creative direction, photography, site design, social media, PR, curation and production. As the eventual CEO, I also oversaw everything from turnaround strategy, P&L and marketing to merchandising, customer service and fulfillment. After seeing a startup from seed to Series A through shutdown to acquisition and re-launch, I know a lot of things about which many agency folks don’t – cap tables, liquor laws, shipping, totes and boxes. So many boxes.
And words. Because at the core of the Mouth brand was how we talked about food. Our brand voice was joyful, conversational and witty, and our (sometimes cringeworthy) puns often became the star design element.
Being a writer is also at my core. Here’s a piece from the NYT. Here’s a piece about my time at ESPN Magazine. And here is a Mouthpiece blog post about cranberry sauce.
I’ve got more to say on all of the above, but I also love to line edit, so we’re going to move on to your next question…
WHO’S CO?
Great question, thanks for asking!
The company I keep is important to me. Yes, I can be a one-woman show if needed, but nothing makes me happier than partnering with smart, talented colleagues.
I’ve got a deep bench of collaborators who are ready to pitch in, depending on the project: designers, writers, photographers as well as marketers, developers, CFOs and business strategists. Let us help you.
